I am experimenting with Gephi, a visualization tool for graphs / networks.
I loaded a subset of my family and the relationships between us and among them.
First the graph was laid out using the Force Atlas mechanism available in Gephi.
The size of each node was made proportional to its Degree after running Average Degree statistics.
I color coded the nodes to represent country of residence (US, Mexico, Germany, Russia, Armenia).
Here is the result :
The outer regions or nodes represent either kids or relatives for whom I have not entered further relationships to their/our other relatives.
A prettier version of the left part of the graph is shown below:
